How the Cookie Crumbles: Where Does the Cookie Money Go?

When you buy a box of delicious Girl Scout Cookies, you are not just purchasing a sweet treat for yourself. You are supporting new and amazing experiences for girls in your community! Supporting the Girl Scout Cookie Program not only gives girls funds for the troop, but it also supports all of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio’s services to volunteers, parents, and girls.

Your support helps girls build skills as they earn badges, maintains camp properties that give girls a safe space to try new things and build confidence, provides training opportunities to our volunteers, subsidizes camp and program events for girls with financial need, AND impacts our communities through service and take action projects that our girls lead. In 2018, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio troops earned over $2.3 million in troop proceeds to fund their activities, buy supplies, and support service projects in local communities. And every penny stayed within our local council after paying the vendor and program costs. That’s $2.3 million in the hands of our girls and troops from the Cookie Program. Such a lot for a box of cookies to do!

So how does it work? How does the cookie crumble? Check out the video above for a breakdown of how the funds from the Cookie Program are allocated. Need a visual? Check out this chart.

We hope that by providing all of this information on how the cookie crumbles our Girl Scouts and cookie customers understand just what buying a box of cookies does for Girl Scouts in our communities. You are building youth leaders in your local community, one cookie box at a time!
