Wrap Up and Restart Your Girl Scout Year!

Springtime means it’s time we start wrapping up our Girl Scout year and looking ahead to the next!

Finish Up with a Celebration!

For starters, it’s time to celebrate! Bring families together to share what the girls have learned and accomplished. It’s a time to celebrate new experiences like going to camp and to celebrate the friendships that have developed through the year.

You can make it a formal affair or keep it simple. You might keep it small or team up with other troops or a service unit for a larger event. Girl Scouts is all about girl-led decisions, and a celebration should be no different. Let the girls help plan!

For girls moving up to the next level of Girl Scouting, a bridging ceremony is the perfect way to showcase all the things girls have experienced as they look forward to their next step in their Girl Scout path. This is another great opportunity for girls to get creative and to invite friends and family to celebrate! Stop by your local Girl Scout shop to pick up the official Bridging Award to add to your girls’ uniforms.

Join us for our annual council-wide bridging event on July 27, 2019 at the Purple People Bridge in Cincinnati. You can find details and registration at gswo.org/bridge!

Prepare for a New Year!

While you’re celebrating your current Girl Scout year, why not prepare for the next!? Early Bird registration runs May 1-June 15, 2019. This is the perfect opportunity to ensure another year of new experiences, fun with friends and building leadership as a G.I.R.L.! If that’s not enough of a reason to register early, check out this year’s awesome incentives for girls, troops and service units!

  • Win up to $500: Troops who register two troop leaders and a product sales manager (3 adults total) during the month of May will be entered into a drawing for $500! But go ahead and renew all of your girls at the same time—they will thank you! 10 troops will win.
  • NEW! Additional Patches: Girls who are registered during Early Bird receive the brand new Rosie the Risk-Taker Early Bird Patch, and if they add a friend, they’ll also get the Invite a Friend Patch! Plus, girls who register by May 15 will receive the My Next Step Patch for being the early Early Bird!
  • Increased Cookie Earnings: Troops who register at least five girls and two troop leaders by June 15 and participate in the Fall Product Sale (5 item minimum per troop required) will receive an additional 5¢ per box of cookies sold in 2020.
  • $250 Service Unit Incentive: Make your next service unit event SUPER special! Service units that hit their Early Bird goal will receive $250 to support service unit activities during the 2019-2020 Troop Year!

So, your troop is registered and ready to plan your next Girl Scout adventures! What’s next?

Our favorite way to plan is to invite families to a planning party. You can even make this part of your year-end celebrations! With the girls and their families, glance through the upcoming Girl Scout badges and journeys, peruse the Program Adventure Guide and brainstorm ideas for potential troop trips to go on or awards girls want to earn and throw it on a calendar.

From there you can start narrowing down the “must-dos,” and if something doesn’t make it, remind families that they can continue the Girl Scout experience at home or attend program events or camps on their own.

Keep your eyes open for new badges and journeys and the release of the 2019-2020 Program Adventure Guide this summer!

Finish Up Your Finances

Before you get too carried away with plans for the 2019-2020 Troop year, remember to submit your financial report to your local Girl Scout Center by July 31, 2019. You can do this in the VTK; just look for the Finance Tab.

If you have any questions about your report, contact GSWO Customer Care at 888.350.5090 or email customercare@gswo.org.

Congratulations on a successful Girl Scout Year and we hope to see you again for 2019-2020! For more information you can view our recorded Wrap-Up and Restart webinar.
