Celebrate Founder’s Day By Doing a Good Turn

Girl Scouts have been striving to live up to our slogan “Do A Good Turn Daily” since way back in 1912 when we were founded! That’s why for this Founder’s Day we’re challenging you to do something to make a difference in the world in celebration of our trailblazing founder, Juliette Gordon Low.

Juliette was born on October 31, 1860, and each year on Halloween, we celebrate Founder’s Day in her honor! So how can you do a good turn this Founder’s Day (and every day)? Keep your eyes open for a way to be helpful today, big or small, it all counts as your good turn!

Need some ideas? Here’s a few to get you started.

Thank someone.

Anyone. You could thank a teacher, a healthcare worker, your favorite coach, your parent, the bus driver, your favorite local business, or the mail carrier. Showing gratitude is a great way to make a positive impact on another person’s day!

Reach out.

Call a friend or family member you haven’t talked to in a while. You can try video chat or just go old school and ring them up on your phone. While connecting on social media can be fun, nothing beats the joy of hearing someone’s voice in conversation as you catch up on their life and show them that they matter to you.

Lend a helping hand.

Is there a task that’s been on the family to do list for a while? Or a friend who has a simple project they could use another set of hands to finish? Does the local park need some weeding and trail clearance assistance? Offer your services! It doesn’t have to be big or incredibly time consuming. Small acts of caring are the backbone of healthy relationships, so find something that someone else needs done and help take care of it today.

Give back!

When you share your time, your treasure, or your talents with others you are making the world a better place one thoughtful act at a time. So share your favorite book with a friend you think would love it. Find out what’s needed at your local food pantry and donate (or volunteer) to help neighbors in need. Ask to be the snack packer for your Girl Scout meeting. Giving to others is an awesome way to help the community AND boost your own spirits too!

There are so many ways (and you have so many opportunities) to do a good turn every day as a Girl Scout! So what good turn will you choose on October 31 (and beyond) to celebrate Founder’s Day?
