Q&A with CEO Aimée Sproles
Over the last six months, I’ve loved getting to know the girls, volunteers, caregivers, and supporters across our council! I have visited our camps, attended highest award ceremonies, met many of you at volunteer appreciation events, and so much more. Each interaction has reinforced to me the strength and importance of Girl Scouts right here in western Ohio and southeastern Indiana.
As I get to know you all better, I wanted to ensure that you get to know me as well! We recently gave girls the opportunity to ask me a few personal questions. I loved answering these, and hope they will give you a bit more insight into who I am!
Q: Why did you decide to become the CEO of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio?
A: What a great question! I fell in love with the mission of Girl Scouts when I first joined the movement eleven years ago as the Chief Operating Officer of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto in Houston, TX. I’m so inspired by how Girl Scouts addressed some of the biggest challenges facing girls today, including mental health, well-being, and the underrepresentation of women in fields like STEM and entrepreneurship. So, when the opportunity to lead a council as strong as this one came along, I jumped at the opportunity.
Q: Do you have any Girl Scout memories from when you were little?
A: Yes! One of my favorite memories from when I was a Girl Scout was participating in the Cookie Program. Like many of you, I went door to door in my neighborhood selling and delivering cookies on my 10-speed bike. I didn’t know it then, but while pedaling around the neighborhood, I was gaining important skills—like perseverance, providing great customer service, and learning how to speak up. These are skills that I still use today.
Q: What are your favorite colors?
A: I have to say my favorite color is blue… but Girl Scout Green is a close second!
Q: What is your favorite animal?
A: Although I don’t have any pets, I love animals! Some of my favorites are dogs, elephants, foxes, and birds. I also enjoy the behind-the-scenes shows that are filmed in the zoo. I’ve loved getting to know Fritz and Fiona and the rest of the hippo bloat at the Cincinnati Zoo. I hope that I’ll be able to check out some of our council’s animal-related programming in the future, like the partnerships we have with the Toledo Zoo and the Newport Aquarium!
Thank you to everyone who has submitted their questions to me so far. Do you have more questions or an idea for me? Send them my way by completing this form!
