We’re Under Construction! Council Property Updates

It’s the summer of change! Or maybe just a season of construction dust? If you haven’t heard, several of our properties are undergoing some much needed (and much requested!) improvements over the summer and fall of 2017.

There are so many reasons to be excited! Who doesn’t love better showers? Added outdoor activity areas? And while we don’t have space to list every improvement to all the properties that are going on, below are some our favorite additions to our properties that we think that you, our members, will love this fall.

Woodhaven Program Center, Lima

Duffy Lodge Improvements! We’re enclosing an area of the lodge to create a sleeping area (with actual bunk beds, not blow up mattresses on the floor), adding shower facilities, and updating the kitchen to be more troop-friendly.

New Program Barn! Formerly the ranger’s shop, this large building at the back of the property will house program supplies that troops can check out, a program space for activities, and a covered porch that faces what will be the archery range.

A Gaga Ball pit! Our ranger is building a pit for this fun game that’s become so popular with outdoor recreation. Are you ready to go gaga for this game?

More Program Space! We’re making a large program space in the middle of the Lima Girl Scout Center, as well as a new volunteer entrance and updated shop area.

Sweetbriar revitalized! We love this old gem and know you do too, but it needed some work. Like a roof that doesn’t leak, removal of the green houses so the sleeping areas aren’t stifling hot, and a more handicap accessible ramp to the dining area.

Girl Scout Center, Dayton

Tree House Walkway! We’re adding an enclosed walkway to the area leading to the tree house.

Additional Parking! No more searching for spots in an overcrowded lot when you visit. Can we get a celebratory fist pump?

Camp Rolling Hills, Pleasant Hill

New Slingshot Range! Located near the archery range is a brightly colored collection of different targets for girls to test their skills on with our sling shots. Take your troop and try it out. It’s really fun!

Camp Whip Poor Will, Morrow

New Shower House! You asked for better showers at camp, and we’ve got you covered with this new facility smack dab in the center of camp between Evergreen and the Dining Hall.

High Challenge Course! Coming soon to this popular camp property, Cadettes and up will take on new heights as they work their way across the high challenge course, 30 feet in the air.

These are just some of the improvements happening on our properties this summer and fall. The Cincinnati, Dayton, and Lima Girl Scout Centers are also undergoing renovations of the office areas so if you stop in, please excuse our construction noise and dust!

Wondering when it will all be finished? We’ll share updates and information on our GSWO Volunteer Support page as things are completed and we’ll have more information available at our regional kick-offs in August. So stay tuned and stay excited!

Hi Pam, thanks for asking about necessary training to use the new slingshot range. Please contact Vicki Proctor at vickiproctor@gswo.org or call 937.279.6534 and she’ll let you know what’s required to use that equipment. Have fun this fall at Rolling Hills!
